Slice of Life — March 16: Watching History

It truly is madness.

There are very few moments in life when you get to witness history — one of those “Where were you when” moments. Tonight, I experienced one such moment, as I watched #16 seeded UMBC beat #1 seeded Virginia by 20 points in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship. It’s the first time a 16 seed has ever beaten a one seed. In fact, Virginia was the overall number one seed in the entire tournament.

This is why I love this tournament and this time of year. The UMBC Retrievers, a team I have never heard of, just became the Cinderella of this tournamnet and is now the underdog everyone is rooting for. I can’t wait to see what they do as the games continue. And for the record, I’m now cheering for the Retrievers.

  1. Wasn't that the most awesome game?! I can only be a Retriever fan for the day! They play Kansas State tomorrow and I always cheer on the my Kansas teams...but secretly I won't be upset if UMBC beats the Wildcats...now Mr. B. is going to be disappointed in me!!
